A portfolio cockpit for private equity, built with pHRism

pHRism, UK · Self-hosted dashboards and an assistant · See the demo

pHRism is a UK consultancy that runs HR and payroll systems, much of it for private equity firms. Two requests kept coming back from its clients. The first was dashboards that matched how each firm actually runs its portfolio, with a way to ask questions in plain English. The second was help with payroll reconciliation, where files from several vendors arrive in different formats and get matched to the ledger by hand. Each one was a bespoke build, and pHRism wanted a partner who could deliver them quickly and under its name.

How we worked

  • Discovery call. Recorded and transcribed. The transcript is the brief, so every screen traces back to something a person asked for.
  • Wireframe in two to three days on sample data, then a review call captured as a change list (eleven items for the first cockpit).
  • Build, phased to go-live, with testing about a week after data access.
  • Changes on demand, logged, agreed and shipped within days.

What we built

The cockpit is self-hosted, so pHRism's clients do not pay per-seat Power BI or Tableau licences. It shows portfolio value, revenue, EBITDA against budget, net debt and leverage across funds, with a red, amber and green view of every portfolio company. Finance pages sort budget variance and covenant headroom worst first, and a submission tracker shows which companies are late. A data health page separates data errors to fix from real business risks to escalate.

On top sits an assistant. You ask a question in plain English, the AI picks the view, a data engine does the calculation, and the answer cites the table and period it came from. Hosting is in the UK or Europe, client data is never used for training, and row-level security keeps each user to their own companies.

The result

pHRism now offers fast-built dashboards with a governed assistant as part of its own service, delivered with us. The same team is piloting an AI reconciliation layer for payroll that collects vendor files the day they land, matches them automatically and sends only the exceptions to a person.

15+ dashboards moved to Power BI for a UK holding group

UK · Power BI · Ongoing

A UK holding group needed its reporting rebuilt in Power BI. We moved more than fifteen dashboards across, checked each one against the numbers the business already trusted, and handed them over. New views and fixes now come to us by mail and are billed by the hour.

From Power BI to self-hosted views for a UK client

UK · Power BI, then HTML · Ongoing

We built this client's Power BI dashboards first. We are now moving them to self-hosted pages that look and behave the same, which removes the per-seat licence and lets us ship changes faster.
